Forecasting future growth of the rail system in Portland, this art school completes an outdoor plaza mirroring Union Station. The promenade from public to private spaces begins as one exits the train station into the plaza. An indoor/outdoor café greets pedestrians, students and faculty as they enter the school. The gallery, theater and classrooms begin on the ground level with offices above. Further away from the public realm, studios and dance rehearsal rooms are protected from direct natural light, casting it inward to a central light well.
