Gonzaga University Dance Theater | Spokane, WA
Fall 2007
Movement studies through space. These exercises included body movements, cars on the road, and model studies of my findings. Through these studies, I found a dense, unchanging area which all other movements were anchored to. It was this relationship which derived the building form and layout.
In designing a dance theater, I performed a series of movement studies, then implemented my findings to inform the building’s organization and presence on site. Once I began analyzing my movements, I found a datum and rays from the point or line. Density and Diffusion. Using this dichotomy as an informer, my design is anchored by the black box theater, with practice studios, green rooms, offices, classrooms and lounge areas organized around that point.
